Today was an amazing and tiresome day. Our kids arrived at LAX with their parents and guardians with small carryon bags like PROS! They took on the day with smiles and happily survived an 11 hour flight straight to Frankfurt and then a mad dash to our connector to Rome! Whew we made it!
They have eaten pizza and pasta and are tucked in bed. Day 2 tomorrow Vatican and Collosium.

9 Days!
Hello travelers and families!
With 9 days left before our trip I wanted to make sure to update you on latest deadlines and info:
Tip money: $72 per traveler is due to your teacher leader by Monday the 18th. No exceptions!
Dietary issues: I have two known food allergies, 3 Vegetarians, and 1 pescetarian. That's it right?
Our guide is planning for us to honor no meat on Good Friday and we are all set for Easter Sunday Service in Paris for those who wish to attend. Dress nicely but comfortably as we are off and running directly after.
He is also able to set up some other interesting extra opportunities for us -- I'll keep you posted.
LUFTHANSA: All travelers with dietary needs should call Lufthansa personally with flight number and time 48 hours in advance of our departure. They rarely if ever serve fish in the economy section of a plane so keep that in mind.
We will meet at Terminal B (Tom Bradley) at LAX. This Terminal is between Terminals 3 and 4. Plan to arrive at 12:30PM at the latest to insure we all get through security together. Bring snacks or money for buying them during our wait time.
Backpack options for comfort:
While the plane has in-seat TV's with lots to do you may want to bring along these things:
- Book or magazines
- Journal, pen, and glue stick
- Headphones
- MP3
- chapstick, handsanitizer, creme (long flights are very drying)
- Shoes that are easy to get on and off (sneakers are fine but socks and slip-ons are better. You will need your good walking shoes on the top of your suitcase to switch to once in Rome.)
- Eye covers for sleeping
- Ear Plugs
- Neck pillow ( plane will provide pillows and blankets but can run out depending on number of people on flight)
Dry Snacks ( remember you cannot bring liquids through security beyond your clear quart toiletry bag -- so no water bottles or soft drinks)

Review of meeting
Last night's meeting was full of so much information I wanted to be sure to remind everyone of the most important points:
PACK LIGHT!
Check bank for ATM use in Europe
Please bring chaperone $72.00 in cash for tipping ASAP but definitely before March 21 when school lets out for our break.
Plan to give Ms. Lowe 30 to 50 dollars for exchange by next week if you are needing a small exchange of cash. The exchange centers do generally charge a fee for this as do banks. FYI: I will only be traveling with my ATM Card and taking money out as needed. It converts immediately to Euros on location and the fee tends to be less. If we do want some exchanging here I will only be doing that once so email if you want me to do that for you.
Make sure you and your parents sign the no drinking on tour/ behavior contract.
Our chaperones: Ms. Butello, Ms. Mendoza, Mr. Topham, Mr. Lopez, Ms. Palma, and myself.
Please make sure we have your dietary needs (vegetarian, allergies etc) and all contact info: your cell and parents cell and email so I can write when we arrive.
Check this blog often for new information.
Look for the packet from EF Tours with your ticket number and final itinerary to arrive in the mail soon.
Finally, we are 19 days out so we all need to finalize our plans for packing etc and adopt and practice that cheery "roll with it" attitude. All smiles and excitement and No sour faces allowed no matter how jet-lagged or tired!
